This website, perispinaletanercept.com, discusses the practical utility of the pioneering work of Edward Tobinick, M.D., the founder and Director of the Institute of Neurological Recovery with perispinal etanercept. Dr. Tobinick invented the remarkable, groundbreaking, perispinal etanercept treatment for brain disorders in 1999. Now, in 2025, there have been more than 5,000 patients with chronic stroke symptoms successfully treated by Dr. Tobinick, and thousands more treated for other medical indications, including brain injury (due to trauma, cardiac arrest, etc.), Alzheimer's disease, Long COVID, and additional illnesses involving neuroinflammation. Dr. Tobinick has now treated patients from every state in the U.S. and from 108 countries.
In October 2018, the Australian Government announced their designation of substantial funding to study perispinal etanercept (PSE) for treatment of stroke. On January 3, 2020 a university, double-blind, randomized, placebo-controlled, clinical trial confirmed the efficacy of perispinal etanercept for treatment of chronic neurological symptoms after stroke. As well as being the inventor of the perispinal etanercept treatment, Dr. Tobinick was instrumental in the design of the university study.
